North Richmond intersection

Last but not least is the all-important upgrades happening to the three main intersections between Richmond and North Richmond. The Australian and NSW Governments are aiming to reduce congestion on Kurrajong Road, March Street and Bells Line of Road approaches to North Richmond Bridge. The Australian Government has provided $18 million in funding to improve traffic conditions in this area while Redbank has also contributed over $2 million at these intersections to date. Works include:

  • Kurrajong Road and Old Kurrajong Road, Richmond (Stage 1) – Complete
  • March Street and Bosworth Street, Richmond (Stage 2) – Future Stage
  • Bells Line of Road and Grose Vale Road, North Richmond (Stage 2) – Underway

The works are being carried out as part of the Roads and Maritime Services’ Richmond Intersections Improvements program. Work will also be carried out to provide two westbound lanes from Pitt Lane to around 90-metres west of Grose Vale Road as well as to install or improve dedicated turning lanes on all sides of the intersection at the North Richmond lights to improve traffic flow for motorists.

As stated in the Hawkesbury Gazette, Mayor of the Hawkesbury Mary Lyons-Buckett welcomed much of the funding for the region but said there was hope for more funding for local roads. “Significant State Government funding towards the Western Sydney Growth Roads programs, and the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan, are very positive,” she said.

While in the wider public there is still much scepticism about upgrades in the area, the reality is for the first time we are seeing record spending and commitment to this beautiful part of Sydney. We now have three bridges planned or about to commence construction, money currently being spent on key choke points on Bells Line of Road and our own developer contributions starting to flow into key upgrades for the area. We already feel this is the most liveable part of Sydney with so much to offer and we are happy to see so many positive steps in the right direction.
