Redbank Go Kart Championship 2020

Ready… set… go, Redbank-ers were off on the tracks!

On Saturday the 22nd of August our community members headed out to Luddenham Raceway, battling it out to be crowned the 2020 Redbank Speedster.

It was meant to be the coldest day of the year, but we were lucky that the weather was kind to us, and everyone just saw the windy conditions as part of the challenge. Our day started off with a 5-minute warmup so that all participants could get the feel for the track and work their lines out. We were then divided into four different groups and each group raced for two sets of ten-minute heats followed by a ten-minute grand final heat.

The raceway prepared a good gourmet sandwich lunch for everyone and right after lunch it was time to announce the results. Based on individual lap times, we first announced the top three from each group and rewarded them with medals. In the Grand Final, Mason Derwin from Group-C snatched victory with his lightning fast lap time of 35.623s. Both of our second and third position winners were from Group-A. Justin Blackford with his incredible lap time of 36.396s took the second place, and nearly missing him by only 0.218s, Jayden Sammut Patrick placed third with his quick 36.614s lap.

We would like to thank everyone who came and made this event successful. We were able to raise $600 from this event which will go towards a local community organisation. Redbank is always a people story, more than a property one and we are constantly on the hunt for creating opportunities for Redbank residents to connect with one another and the wider Hawkesbury community. The Annual Go Kart Championship brings people together and creates a meaningful conversation and we are already looking forward to hosting our next one.
