The Old English name for Sunday, Sunnandæg, means "day of the sun." That is exactly what we experienced at the Redbank Go Kart Race Day at the Indy 800 Kart Track on Sunday, 17th June 2018. The sun was up bright and early and so were we!
The setting was that of a holiday, with picnic blankets, BBQ on the side, and an action-packed racing track that definitely got our adrenaline pumping. The windy side of the day gave us an opportunity to take some dramatic photos too. Imagine this- a shot of you putting your helmet on while the wind is blowing in your hair. You get the picture!
The rustle of the leaves against the wind, the smell of coffee, and children giggling on the jumping castle, were the highlights of the morning and finally it was time to team up for the races.
There were 5 groups that comprised of more than 50 drivers. Names were pulled from a hat and groups started to take shape. There was excitement and a little bit of nervousness in the air for sure. As teams one and two made their way to the track the others followed. How can one not stand on the sidelines and cheer?
With the tracks clear, all drivers in their seats, track-time and speed on their minds – 3…2…1…go!
After what can be called a nail-biting race series, we had 5 winners from the first round races, 5 who had the top lap times, and our fastest lady Katrina Ryan. In the second and final round the eleven amazing racers raced for the top three spots.
In a toe to toe race that lasted for around 10 minutes, we had few spin outs, a little off-road adventure from a few racers and saw some strong determination on the tracks. Then we had our three top racers based on their lap time and position on the race.
On third position, we had Aaron Barrass from The Gallery. Aaron secured his spot in the final by coming first in the first round and he had a very consistent run in the final that got him to secure the third place. Andrew Green from Belmont was our 2nd position holder. Just like Aaron, Andrew came first in his first race and he was a worry for a lot of other racers for his super quick laps. And then we had our Redbank Speedster, Geoff Ryan from Yobarnie Rise. Geoff, who also was the winner of his first round race, was the most consistent in all his laps in the final race. No under-steering, no over-steering, he just sailed his way through in all the laps and secured the crown for the day. We express our heartiest gratitude to Geoff and for putting in a lot of effort in planning this event with us. We would also like to thank everyone else who helped up organise and manage the day.
There was competition, sweat, and tears- maybe not tears. What was amazing was the getting together of the community to spend a day together. At Redbank Communities we try to create an atmosphere where one can be themselves- whether they are into speed or relaxation, we hope we achieved that at the Redbank Go Kart Race Day. Here’s to our next outing or adventure as a community. Cheers!

We understand that everyone wants more information on when settlement is expected, and what is creating the delays.
